Scores for horn, cello and piano, <em>Siglufj\u00f6r\u00f0ur<\/em> is inspired by Oliver&#8217;s journey to the Northernmost town in Iceland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>&#8220;In July 2021, I spent a rainy morning at Siglufj\u00f6r\u00f0ur\u2019s Folk Music Centre, founded by composer Gunnsteinn \u00d3lafsson. Exploring the collection, I was particular moved by a short song called \u201cBl\u00e1stjarnan \u00fe\u00f3tt skarti sk\u00e6r.\u201d This hauntingly beautiful melody was collected by ethnomusicologist Benedikt J\u00f3nsson (1846-1939) in northern Iceland. Bl\u00e1stjarnan is the blue star Vega. Siglufj\u00f6r\u00f0ur is a theme and variations built on the theme of Bl\u00e1stjarnan. The melody is first introduced by the cello and then taken up by the horn. The piece develops from there, on a musical journey inspired by my travels in the fjords.<\/em>&#8220;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The program, entitled Anne Howarth: Center Stage, features Juventas&#8217;s celebrated Hornist in a special solo concert, curated around the theme of water.
