Juventas New Music Ensemble will premiere Oliver’s new quintet Watershed (flute, clarinet, horn, cello, piano) on its upcoming concert “The Voice of the Rain.”
Oliver writes:
“Watershed was inspired by a favorite walk along the Mystic River. From the boat launch in Medford Square, just a few blocks from my house, I meander for miles upriver, eventually reaching a series of gleaming lakes.
While this urban oasis has provided solace and inspiration for years, in 2020 it became something more: a lifeline. Amidst the global COVID-19 pandemic and the claustrophobia of staying home for extended periods, this green corridor quiets my mind and fills my soul with light. I return over and over again, finding hope in the enduring beauty of the natural world.”
The program also includes works by Stephanie Ann Boyd, Linda Chase, Michael Culligan, Oliver Davis, Andrew Porter and Ingrid Stolzel.
The event will be broadcast live on YouTube at 8pm on November 14, with CD quality audio and high definition video from four camera feeds. Audience members are also invited to join a pre-concert “Composer Conversation at 7pm on Zoom. Both events are free and open to all.
