The Reno Pops Orchestra named Oliver as the Winner of its 2024-25 Composer’s Showcase, recognizing his orchestral work Journey to the West. The orchestra will perform the piece live in 2025. Journey to the West is a double concerto for orchestra with flute and erhu soloists, inspired by the epic Chinese novel by Wu Cheng’en (1506-1582). It was co-commissioned by the Bronx Arts Ensemble and Chinese Symphonic Masterpieces at Harvard University. Stay tuned for concert info, coming soon!
