The Hartwick College Faculty Octet (Andy Pease, Director) has released their new album Stravinsky: Alone No More, which includes the world premiere recording of Oliver’s Krummholz Variations.
Inspired by life in the alpine zone, Krummholz Variations is an ode to moments of beauty in the face of harsh conditions. The piece was commissioned by a nationwide consortium of 12 ensembles.
Stravinsky: Alone No More (2020, Mark Masters) pairs Stravinsky’s beloved Octet for winds and brass (flute, clarinet, 2 bassoons, 2 trumpets, 2 trombones) with companion works for the same instrumentation by Oliver, JoAnne Harris, Chris Lamb and Michael Markowski.
