The Musical Chairs Chamber Ensemble will premiere Oliver’s newest work The New Colossus on March 10.
Over a century ago, author Emma Lazarus penned a sonnet so powerful it would come to symbolize America’s place in the world for generations. “Keep ancient lands, your storied pomp,” she wrote. “Give me your tired, your poor.” Oliver has set these iconic words to music in honor of our nation’s history as a beacon of welcome.
The program also includes words by Lili Boulanger, Hilary Purrington and Claude Bolling, plus a set of beloved songs from American theatre.
