Oct. 20: Chamber Orch. of Boston Performs “We Exist”

October 9, 2018

Boston fans: missed the premiere performances of We Exist in June? There’s one more opportunity! The Chamber Orchestra of Boston has partnered with the New Hampshire Master Chorale to bring this powerful new piece to their October 20 concert.

“The piece responds to the 2017 violence in Charlottesville, Virginia—and the tepid response from the highest level of government,” says Oliver.  “It revealed dark undercurrents of xenophobia, sexism, racism and homophobia that shook me to my core. We Exist responds to hatred with a call to action. Each of us carries the responsibility to open our hearts and speak against affronts to freedom. This piece celebrates the strength of diversity and honors all races, all faiths and all genders.”

We Exist is a 20-minute work for chorus and string orchestra, with lyrics by Naseem Rakha. It was commissioned by the New Hampshire Master Chorale.

The Chamber Orchestra of Boston’s October 20 concert “Visions” also includes music by J.S. Bach and Christopher Theofanidis.
