March 10: Chamber Orchestra of Boston performs “Love Letters”

February 13, 2018

The Chamber Orchestra of Boston will perform Oliver’s sextet Love Letters (flute, clarinet, string quartet). Love Letters was written for the composer’s marriage to Landscape Architect Chris Beagan. “This piece is an affirmation of love and equality,” Oliver shares. “Chris and I grew up in a time when two men could not marry. When we tied the knot in 2015, our marriage was only recognized in some parts of our country.” Three weeks after their wedding, the Supreme Court issued the landmark Obergefell v. Hodges ruling, which recognized the fundamental right of same-sex couples to marry.

The March 10 concert program, also titled “Love Letters,” includes romantic works by Ravel, Elgar, Ligeti, Walton and more.
